AI startup idea validators, compared

AI idea validators split into two kinds. Preuve AI, IdeaProof and ValidatorAI return a score in a minute or two, and DimeADozen returns a long sourced report. Buteo, the AI idea validator, takes minutes rather than seconds, checks each source against what it cites, and returns a Continue, Pivot or Kill recommendation that a person decides on. Which is best depends on whether you want speed, a business plan, or evidence you can check.

How do the main AI idea validators compare?

Five tools that take a startup idea and return an assessment. They differ most in three things: whether you get a score or an argument, whether you can open the sources, and whether the answer takes a minute or several.

ToolWhat it returnsSourcesTime to a result
Preuve AIA viability score out of 100, a competitor map, risks and pivot suggestions.Says it scans 60+ live data sources and links each claim to its source.60 seconds for the free scan.
IdeaProofA success score with a confidence level, market sizing, competitor analysis, financial projections, a business plan and brand assets.Says it draws on 50+ authoritative sources.120 seconds for a validation.
DimeADozenA long research report. The full one typically runs to 100+ pages.Says the full report typically carries 500+ citations, each linked to its source.First sections in minutes; the full report can take longer.
ValidatorAIAn AI score and step-by-step advice. Not stated on its homepage.Under 60 seconds.
ButeoA Continue, Pivot or Kill recommendation, a hypothesis list, an evidence ledger and a competitor map. No overall score.Every finding cites a page and is checked against that page's text. What fails the check is labelled.About 13 minutes on one measured run.

How was this comparison made?

Buteo, the AI idea validator, wrote this page and is one of the five tools on it. Read it with that in mind.

  • Every fact about another tool comes from that tool's own website, read on October 6, 2026, and each name in the table links there.
  • We did not buy or run paid reports from the other four. This compares what each says it does, not our experience of using it.
  • Where a site did not state something, the table says so rather than guessing.
  • Buteo's own row uses the prices the app charges and the figures from one measured run.

When is another tool the better choice?

Often. Buteo is the slowest tool in the table, and it does less.

  • You want a first reaction in a minute, for free. ValidatorAI is free and answers in under 60 seconds. Preuve AI and DimeADozen each give a free score or scan. Buteo takes minutes, and its free tier is one validation.
  • You want a business plan, financial projections or a brand. IdeaProof lists all three among its outputs, and Preuve AI lists market sizing and a business plan. Buteo reports the market findings it can source, and writes go-to-market studies and build plans, but it does not generate financial projections or brand assets.
  • You want the longest, most heavily cited report. DimeADozen says its full report typically runs to 100+ pages and 500+ citations. One measured Buteo run kept 52 findings.
  • You want a single number. Preuve AI, IdeaProof and ValidatorAI all return a score. Buteo deliberately does not.

When is Buteo the better choice?

When you care more about whether the evidence holds up than about how fast it arrives.

  • You want to know the sources are real. Buteo checks each finding against the text of the page it cites: every number in the claim has to appear there. A finding that fails is labelled as unsupported by its source and cannot be used in the verdict.
  • You want the case against the idea. A competitor pass and a risk pass run on every idea and cannot be switched off, and a final pass tries to break the strongest evidence.
  • You want to decide yourself. Buteo recommends Continue, Pivot or Kill and stops for a person to choose. An idea is never killed automatically.
  • You plan to test, not only to read. It proposes real-world experiments for the claims research could not settle, waits for your results, and re-evaluates with them.
  • You want to see the method. The scoring formula, the verification thresholds and the known limits are published on the methodology page.

What should you check before trusting any of them?

The same things, whichever tool you use, ours included:

  1. Is every claim linked to a source you can open?
  2. Open three of them. Does the page say what the claim says, number included?
  3. Does the report contain any bad news about your idea?
  4. Does it say what it could not find, or does it have a confident view on everything?
  5. Can you find out how the score or the verdict was produced?

FAQ

Questions people ask about this

What is the best AI startup idea validator?

It depends on what you need. For a free answer in under a minute, ValidatorAI or the free scans from Preuve AI are quickest. For a business plan and financial projections, IdeaProof lists both. For the longest sourced report, DimeADozen. For checked sources and a decision you make yourself, Buteo. This is based on each tool's own website as of October 2026.

Is there a free AI idea validator?

Yes. According to their own websites as of October 2026, ValidatorAI is free to use, Preuve AI offers a free scan, DimeADozen offers a free idea score, and IdeaProof gives new users 40 credits, enough for one validation. Buteo's first validation is free with no card: 10 credits, enough for one full run.

Which AI idea validators cite their sources?

According to their own websites as of October 2026, Preuve AI says each claim is linked to its source and DimeADozen says its full report typically carries 500+ linked citations. Buteo cites a page for every finding and also checks that the page's text supports the claim, labelling the findings that fail.

Is a faster idea validator a worse one?

Not necessarily. A one-minute score is useful as a first reaction, and several tools give it for free. Speed and depth are different jobs: a result in a minute cannot have read and checked dozens of sources, and a result that took longer is only better if you can open its sources and they say what it claims.
